Tampa, Florida -- The attorney for Jennifer Mee, 19, says his client is upset and "very remorseful" after being charged this week with murder.

Mee gained international fame in 2007 after an uncontrollable case of the hiccups.

Saturday, investigators say Mee and two men lured a 22-year-old man to a vacant home.  The man was shot and killed.

Today on the MJ Morning Show, Largo-based attorney John Trevena confirmed he is representing Mee.

Trevena says Mee did not pull the trigger and that she didn't believe anyone would be hurt during the incident.

"Several parts of our interview were interrupted by several bouts of her crying," Trevena said.

Trevena said a neurological disorder, which he later revealed is Tourette Syndrome, caused Mee's hiccuping episode

And the hiccups do return from time to time, he added.

"The neurological disorder might relate to the [murder] case," Trevena said.

Trevena said Mee has been receiving disability for her condition, and to his knowledge, she had not been working.

Trevena also said Mee left home about a year ago.

In the weeks before the killing, St. Pete Police investigators said Mee had been a transient.

Investigator Mike Kovacsev told NBC's Today Show that Mee had been living in a series of motels and apartments.
