Riverview, Florida -- Deputies believe a man was specifically targeted and shot dead in his home Wednesday night.
Investigators with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said they believe the home invasion was not a random attack.
But detectives won't release many details about the home invasion, including why they believe the victim was targeted. They also have not shared any possible motives for the attack.
Deputies said a man called 911 just after 8 p.m. Wednesday and reported that a burglary may be going on inside a home at 12230 Dawn Vista Drive, in Riverview's South Pointe subdivision.
When responding deputies arrived, a Sheriff's Office spokesman said the man who had called for help met the law enforcement officers outside the home.
The man said his roommate may have been shot.
Investigators said the deputies who went inside found a man dead; he had been shot several times.
The name of the victim has not been released. Sheriff's investigators have also not shared any suspect information.
