GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida pastor says Muslim protests abroad and condemnation from U.S. government and religious leaders won't deter him from burning Islam's holy book on Saturday.
This past Sunday, the Rev. Terry Jones told his congregation at the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville that they'll burn the Quran to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Jones explained that they believe the Quran is a false and evil book that's "against the Bible" and "against God."
The National Association of Evangelicals and the National Council of Churches have denounced the Quran burning and Gainesville fire officials have refused to grant the church a bonfire permit, but Jones vows to go ahead with the burning anyway.
