Fort Myers, Florida - Country singer Mindy McCready will appear in January on the reality TV show “Celebrity Rehab,” according to “Entertainment Weekly” magazine.

The hit VH1 show follows celebrities as they go through drug and alcohol treatment.

The TV show is part of the North Fort Myers native’s comeback plan — a plan that includes a book she’s writing about her life, a self-released album and possibly more reality TV shows, McCready said in this week’s “Entertainment Weekly.”

The singer had a No. 1 single in 1996 with “Guys Do It All the Time.”

McCready told the magazine she initially joined “Celebrity Rehab” to get “a big fat check.” But now she says the 3 1/2 weeks of taping this summer helped save her life.

McCready spent some time in a rehab center last summer, she said, but “Celebrity Rehab” helped her focus less on substance abuse and more on her problems with codependency.

“I have put myself in harm’s way in almost every relationship I’m in,” McCready says. “I know now. I am a beacon for anybody that wants to take advantage of me.”

Her high-profile relationships have included ex-boyfriend William McKnight (the father of her 3-year-old son) and baseball star Roger Clemens (she claims she had a sexual relationship with the married Clemens when she was a teenager— a claim that Clemens denies).

McKnight was charged with breaking into McCready’s home in May 2005 and attacking her. McCready later sued McKnight, claiming his abuse and violent temper helped derail her career.

McCready plans to put out a self-released album next year, but now that’s snagged in legal problems with the Denver label, Iconic Records. McCready told “Entertainment Weekly” she’s unhappy with the record deal and is considering filing for bankruptcy to get out of it.

In October, McCready was released after about 30 days in jail for violating probation on a 2004 drug charge.

The probation violation occurred in July 2007 in North Fort Myers. McCready was charged with scuffling with her mother and resisting arrest at Inge's North Fort Myers home.
