New Year's Eve brings out the family fireworks displays, but also the list of safety tips for parents and children.

Phantom Fireworks in Tampa off Gandy Blvd. even staples a pamphlet of safety tips to every receipt, so each customer has a copy of their guidelines

"We want to make sure our community knows how important it is to be safe when you are using these explosives," said Phantom Fireworks manager Jared Aponte. "We want everyone to have a good time, but if they do not follow these rules, we can't guarantee they will."

"I like the sparkles but, when the flame gets close to my fingers it makes me feel weird, so I always hold it at the bottom and scooch my fingers down more when it gets too close for me," said 9-year-old Dakota Jackson.

Dakota's mother and father, Jennifer and Nick Jackson were shopping with him at Phantom Fireworks early in the morning on New Year's Eve.  They were only interested in buying the smaller ones for their New Year's Eve's  celebration.

"We are buying the 'PG' ones because the bigger ones are too loud and too much for us to worry about this year," said Jennifer Jackson.

"One year we had a big one that fell over and started shooting out everywhere, and everyone we were with was running different directions... so we really try to be safe and have water nearby in case anything like that every happens again," said Nick Jackson. "It was pretty scary for us all."

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that on average, there are 200 emergency room visits a day related to fireworks injuries during fireworks-related holidays.
