WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- Police say the Florida convention planner who was beaten to death in a suburban New York hotel room was having an affair.

Rye Brook police Chief Gregory Austin would not say Monday whether the liason was a motive in the July 12 killing of Ben Novack Jr. at the village's Hilton hotel.

He said the Fort Lauderdale man's mistress was not at the hotel at the time.

Novack was the 53-year-old son of the founder of the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, which was featured in the movies "Goldfinger" and "Scarface."

Novack's wife told police she found him beaten to death and bound with duct tape.

The chief said Narcisa Novack is a person of interest in the killing.

He says that neither Novack's wife nor his mistress are suspects.
