Brandon woman tricked out of $25,000 in jewelry and cash at Walmart on Causeway Boulevard

Brandon, Florida -- A woman was scammed out of cash, coins and jewelry by two people at the Walmart on Causeway Boulevard. 

On January 22, at the Walmart, the victim was approached by a man and a woman who introduced themselves as Mary Ann and Emmanuel. Mary Ann said she was a Walmart employee and asked the victim if she lost a wallet. 

Mary Ann then showed the victim a wallet containing $150,000 in cash.  

Mary Ann said the store manager agreed that the three of them could keep the contents of the wallet if they proved they had property of their own. At this point, the victim said she had jewelry at home and she and Emmanuel left to get it. The victim went home where she retrieved some jewelry and the key to her safety deposit box.

The two proceeded to the Wells Fargo Bank where the victim emptied her safety deposit box which was full of cash, jewelry and coins. 

When the victim and Emmanuel arrive back at Walmart, Mary Ann entered the vehicle. She then told the victim to sit on a bench inside the store and where manager would give her $50,000, one third of what was found in the wallet. In the meantime, Mary Ann would have the items from the safety deposit box appraised. 

The victim then left the suspects in her vehicle and went into the Walmart. 

After waiting about 15 minutes inside of the store, the victim realized she had been scammed. When she returned to her vehicle both the suspects and her items were gone. 

Mary Ann is described as: 

  • A black female, 30-49 years old
  • 5'3", 150 lbs., medium build
  • Black hair and brown eyes
  • Last seen wearing white pants, brown boots, brown suede jacket, scarf and beige, black and burgundy knitted hat.

Emmanuel is described as:

  • Black male, 50-64 years old
  • 6'2" - 6'4", 220 lbs., medium build
  • Short black hair, brown eyes and a black mustache
  • Last seen wearing white pants, brown boots, brown suede jacket, scarf and beige, black and burgundy knitted hat.
