Spring Hill, Florida-- A 15-year-old was arrested in Spring Hill after she lied to deputies about a man's attempt to abduct her earlier this week.
According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, the teen called to make the report on Monday night around 10, and when deputies arrived to investigate, she went into great detail about a man's attempt to abduct her.
She reportedly told them she was walking in the Spring Haven Apartment complex when a "Hispanic male grabbed her from behind", placed his hand over her mouth and told her not to scream.
The teen got away, according to her story, only after she kicked the man and hit him with her laptop.
She even gave deputies a full description of the "suspect", including his clothing, a possible tattoo, and even "a beanie cap pulled down to his eyebrows," says the report.
However, deputies say as they investigated the area and interviewed residents of the complex, nothing really appeared to be out of the ordinary.
A follow-up interview with the teen on Tuesday revealed the truth. Apparently she provided several different versions of the incident, until finally admitting that she fabricated the entire story, says the report.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis weighed in on the severity of such a crime, saying false reports waste time, tax dollars and resources needed elsewhere.
"A priority response, like the allegation of an attempted kidnapping, can almost instantly incur expenses running into the thousands of dollars," he added.
The teen was charged by detectives with False Report of a Crime and was issued a Juvenile Citation.
