Sarasota, Florida -- Investigators say a Sarasota man broke into two businesses over the weekend and beat a dog to death... and it was all caught on surveillance video.
The Sarasota Sheriff's Office got a call Monday morning from the owner of John's Automotive on Snug Harbor Place, reporting that his 4-year-old Mastiff, named Ashton, was missing from the property.
When the owner reviewed surveillance video, he was horrified to see a man beating the dog to death with a tire iron.
Deputies say the man, 52-year-old Kevin Koscielniak, was an employee who was asked to leave on Saturday after causing a disturbance.
Investigators say Koscielniak climbed over a barbed wire fence, killed the dog, wrapped it in a blanket, then cut the fence to a neighboring auto repair business, and buried the animal there.
Koscielniak was arrested and charged with one count of cruelty to animals resulting in death, one count of improper disposal of dead animals, two counts of burglary, one count of tampering with evidence and one count for damaging the fence.
He is being held on $7,620 bond.
