LARGO, Florida - Fred Michael Sumner is facing charges of allegedly walking into a Largo office building and opening fire over his wife's alleged affair.
The alleged gunman, 52, walked into the BayView Pavillion business complex at around 9:30 Wednesday morning and shot out several glass windows and doors in the lobby.
"There's so much glass around us, we don't know what to do. I don't understand why the police aren't here," said a worker who called 911 after hearing the shots.
According to police, Sumner was looking for his wife, who was not in the building at the time, after he discovered that she was allegedly having an affair.
Cops say Sumner did not aim the gun at any person when he shot out the glass windows and doors in the lobby on the Lightwave Drive building.
At some point, the Largo man shot himself in the abdomen.
"There's someone lying on the ground inside the lobby downstairs," said another terrified employee in the 911 call.
Sumner was flown to Bayfront Medical Center, but the extent of his injuries has not been released.
He's charged with criminal mischief and shooting within an occupied building. He is being held on $25,000 bond.
None of the workers inside the building suffered life-threatening injuries.
