WINTER HAVEN, Florida -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office says it has made an arrest in a convenience store shooting that happened on Wednesday.
Authorities say 29-year-old Leonard Coleman went into the Superway Convenience Store on Avenue G NW and told the clerk he wanted $2 worth of gas. He then allegedly put a handful of coins on the counter. The clerk and suspect exchanged words about the change, then Coleman reportedly left the store.
Authorities say the clerk followed Coleman outside. Coleman allegedly turned and shot the clerk, striking him in the shoulder. He then fled on foot.
The clerk was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
Coleman reportedly confessed to deputies that he was at the store and was involved in the altercation with the clerk. He is charged with attempted first degree homicide and carrying a concealed weapon.
