Winter Haven, Florida -- Neighbors of a Winter Haven woman called police Thursday after they saw her three toddler-aged children outside in their yard alone.
Around 5:15 Thursday evening, when police officers showed up at the home they found the front door wide open and two of the children playing outside alone.
During a search of the home, they found 31-year-old April Ray asleep in her bed. After numerous attempts to wake her by shaking her and yelling at her, she finally opened her eyes and stood straight up on her bed, police say.
Officers found drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs on the bed where she had been sleeping. Her home was also cluttered with piles of clothes, numerous dirty dishes with food piled on the counters and feces on the floor.
The children were turned over to family member and Ray was arrested and charged with three counts of child neglect, one count possession of methamphetamine and one count possession of drug paraphernalia.
