Tampa, Florida -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has issued a warrant for a man who allegedly stole over $71,000 in air conditioners and various parts from a distributing company.
Deputies say on Nov. 3, Carlos Portal broke into Baker Distributing on Anderson Road and stole $56,385 worth of air conditioners, copper wires/tubing, refrigerant parts, and $500 in cash. He then loaded all of the items into a company 2005 Mitsubishi box truck and fled the scene.
The estimated value of all of the items, including the truck, is valued at $71,385. Authorities have recovered the box truck, but none of the stolen property has been found.
Portal, 40, is currently wanted for Grand Theft Auto and, police say, may be driving a white, 2004 Ford "Econoline" with ladder rack on the top right. It may also have commercial markings for A/C contracting. Detectives are still investigating the burglary and more charges are pending.
