Tampa, Florida -- With the holiday shopping season well under way, police in Tampa are ramping up patrols around malls to help crack down on shoplifting and thefts.
On Tuesday, two suspects were arrested as a part of Tampa Police's "Deck the Malls" operation at International Plaza. An officer spotted 22-year-old Cedric Sanders, a suspect from a previous shoplifting offense, dressed as a woman.
Sanders, along with 21-year-old Terral Norris, threw their shopping bags on the ground and took off running as soon as they saw the officer.
Police were able to catch up to the two suspects in the mall parking lot, and they were taken to jail without incident.
Nearly $700 in stolen merchandise was allegedly found in their shopping bags, including skinny jeans, polo shirts and shorts from various stores.
Police say they also found a "booster bag," which is used to defeat anti-theft equipment.
