Winter Haven, FL-- Winter Haven Police arrested six people Wednesday during an undercover operation involving the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors.

Winter Haven Police, along with two Winter Haven Police Explorers, conducted underage alcohol and tobacco buys at 29 stores within the city limits.

Of the convenience stores, drug stores, liquor stores, pubs and bars, police say five stores sold alcohol to the minors, and one hookah bar sold tobacco products to a minor.

"We are proud of our businesses that take this matter seriously and train their associates to ID customers ensuring alcohol and tobacco sales are to the right customer," said Chief Gary Hester.

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), underage drinking contributes to more injuries or death of children than illicit drugs. "Alcohol is the most commonly abused drug among our youth population," Hester said.

"It is our duty to protect children from those who disregard the law by supplying these products to our youth."
