Tallahassee, Florida -- A teenager wanted for the robbery and murder of a man in St. Petersburg earlier this year has been caught by U.S. Marshals in Tallahassee.

Police say along with two other teens, 14-year-old Franco Harris Thomas beat Jeremy Mayers with a shotgun, strangled him and then stole his cell phone, wallet and car back on July 8.

Police found Mayers still unconscious while they were investigating a nearby, unrelated hit and run crash. Mayers was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Brittany Detwiler and Scionti Hill, both 16, were arrested within days of the murder, but Thomas went on the run.

The U.S. Marshals Service got information that indicated Thomas had been staying at a relative's house in Tallahassee and on Tuesday afternoon, they made a tactical entry into the residence, where they found Thomas inside.

Federal agents say Thomas attempted to flee, but was caught before he could get out of the house.

Thomas will be extradited to Pinellas County to face first degree murder charges.

Authorities are continuing to investigate people who may have helped aid Thomas while he was on the run, but so far, no charges have been filed.
