ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) - Eleven Florida A&M University band members charged in connection with last year's hazing death of drum major Robert Champion will be arraigned Thursday in Orlando.

Most of the defendants have waived their arraignments and won't be in the courtroom when a judge formally reads the charges against them.  Two defendants who haven't hired attorneys may be assigned public defenders.

Champion, 26, died following a hazing ritual aboard a bus parked outside an Orlando hotel.
His autopsy report listed his cause of death as a homicide as the result of repeated blows to his body.

Champion had opposed hazing. But he was also vying to be the band's top leader, and friends say he volunteered to be hazed in order to win respect from others.
