St. Petersburg, Florida -- Gandy Boulevard was closed for about two hours on Sunday after a pedestrian was killed while trying to cross the road.
The Florida Highway Patrol says around 7:10 p.m., 59-year-old Darrell Gillis was standing in between the outside and inside lane of eastbound Gandy Boulevard at Snug Harbor Road NE as three vehicles were approaching in the inside lane on Gandy Boulevard. The first driver was reportedly not able to see Gillis until moments before and could not swerve in time and hit Gillis.
After Gillis was hit by that car, he was then hit two more times by the two other vehicles.
Gilils, of St. Petersburg, died at the scene. None of the other drivers were injured.
