Bradenton, Florida -- Florida Fish and Wildlife is looking at what they can do to make Eagle Nest Sink a safer place to dive.

The push to review the safety precautions at the Hernando County dive spot comes after Darrin Spivey and his 15-year-old son, Dillon Sanchez, died during their cave dive Christmas Day.

Following their deaths, Spivey's father called for the 300-foot cave to be closed saying it's too dangerous for diving.

Eagle Nest Sink is a Wildlife Management Area, not a state park.  Check-in stations are manned part-time during certain portions of the hunting season.

Sign is required, however the FWC does not presently have a procedure in place to ensure divers sign in when check stations are not manned.

FWC is looking into how people are able to access the cave to see if restrictions should be put in place.
