The Greenlight Pinellas opposition group "No Tax for Tracks" will hold a kick-off meeting on Tuesday, January 21st at 7 p.m. at the Abundant Life Ministries Church at 1550 Belcher Rd. S. in Largo.
The group's goal is to convince voters to shoot down the sales tax increase referendum, increasing the tax from 7 to 8 percent, on November's ballot. They assert that the "tax swap" proposal which would eliminate PSTA's funding from property tax in favor of this new sales tax, will actually quadruple the amount that Pinellas County taxpayers pay for public transportation.
The goal of Greenlight Pinellas is to increase bus service an efficiency by 65% and to initiate the construction of light rail from Clearwater to St. Petersburg by way of the Gateway/Carillon area.
