Port Richey, FL -- Friends of the victim in Monday's deadly shooting at a Wesley Chapel movie theater are organizing a fundraiser for his family.

For the past two years, Joe Detrapani and Chad Oulson had been friends and co-workers at Sky Powersports in Port Richey. The two young dads would even babysit each other's kids on occasion.

"He'd give you the shirt off his back for anything you needed," said Detrapani.

"Great family, great friend and help you out in whatever way he could."

Oulson, says Detrapani, doted on his young daughter, describing her as the light of his life.

That's why Chad's co-workers are organizing a motorcycle ride for early next month to raise money for the family.

"They're gonna need some help and he's got a beautiful little girl that's gonna need some help the rest of her life that he unfortunately won't be here for to be able to do," said Detrapani.

What puzzles Detrapani most is the allegations of hostility leading up to Oulson's death.

"Just can't wrap your head around it."

Officials say the shooting stemmed from an argument over texting inside the movie theater. It ended with a single gunshot.

It would be completely out of character for Chad Oulson to argue with anyone, said Detrapani. He described Chad as a people person.

But no one knows what happened except for those in the theater. Even then, nothing at this point will bring his friend back.

"What's worth pulling a gun on somebody? Popcorn? A remark toward you? An argument? It's not. Nothing's worth that. So it's just something that I can't fathom what anybody could have done to that person for lack of a better term - to cause him to pull a gun and just do that."

Several other motorcycle dealerships say they are already on board with the fundraiser.

If you'd like to participate or help, information will be posted on the Sky Powersports Facebook page, which you can access here.
