Bloomberg News is refuting claims contained in a lawsuit filed by the owner of 1-800-Ask-Gary.

On Friday, the media company filed a motion to dismiss all claims against it, including charges of libel and civil conspiracy. Another defendant in the suit, AllState Insurance, also filed a motion to dismiss the claims.

In November, Sarasota-based Ask Gary sued Bloomberg News and AllState Insurance Company, alleging that Bloomberg and AllState conspired with extortionists to ruin the reputation of the accident referral service. In November 2011, Bloomberg News published a lengthy report indicating the state of Florida and the FBI were investigating Ask Gary.

10 News has confirmed that the US Attorney's office in Tampa opened its investigation based on a complaint from the alleged extortionist, but did not find sufficient evidence to continue its investigation. 10 News has also confirmed that the FBI has closed its related investigation into Ask Gary.
