Tampa, Florida -- The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services joined local leaders for an important announcement about enrollment in the Affordable Care Act.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn announced his city is opening nine rec centers for people to get one-on-one help from navigators to make sure they are enrolled in health insurance.

Navigators will be available from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on select dates each week beginning the week of Monday, January 20, 2014 through the enrollment deadline of March 31, 2014.

  • Springhill Center, 1000 E Eskimo  - Mondays
  • Loretta Ingraham Center, 1615 N Hubert Ave - Tuesdays
  • Cyrus Greene Center, 2101 E Dr. MLK Jr Blvd  - Tuesdays
  • Jackson Heights Center, 3310 E Lake Ave - Tuesdays
  • Hunt Center at Al Lopez Park, 4810 N. Himes Ave - Wednesdays

The mayor's office says these nine centers were chosen because they are the busiest centers in Tampa. Residents do not need to have a Rec Card in order to meet with a navigator. For more information, call (813) 422-4917.

After Buckhorn's announcement, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius took the podium.

"Here in the Tampa Bay area there are 102 (health insurance) plans to choose from, so people have an opportunity to get a good plan at a good price," said Sebelius. She later added "A 27-year-old here in this area who earns $25,000 a year can get covered for as little as $113 a month."
