Seffner, Florida -- Deputies have made an arrest in the hit-and-run death of Thomas Woods, whose body was found laying in the grass along the east side of S. Parsons Avenue after midnight on December 28.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says 42-year-old Mac Joiner walked into the lobby of the Orient Road Jail at 8:30 p.m. and identified himself as the person who was driving the vehicle that struck Woods.
According to detectives, Joiner was driving his 1995 blue Dodge Dakota pickup northbound on Parsons Ave. when he saw Woods standing on the east side of the road. He told deputies he couldn't avoid hitting Woods and knocking him into a grassy area. He then fled the scene.
The sheriff's office says damage to Joiner's truck is consistent with the crash.
Joiner is charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash involving death.
