Winter Haven, Florida -- A Winter Haven man is okay after landing his plane in Lake Hancock Friday afternoon.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says 48-year old Eric McCoy had just left from Winter Haven Municipal Airport around noon Friday when his engine failed.

He called for help at Bartow Municipal Airport and did a belly landing into the lake in an around that was only about 4 feet deep.

Back at the Bartow Airport, the owner of a company that flies seaplanes heard the "May Day" and took off to help. The good Samaritan, Harry Shannon, found McCoy's submerged plane and the pair flew back to the airport.

McCoy was checked out by Polk County EMS and walked away unharmed.
