From fences around the property to gates at the bus lane, if you're a visitor at Cahoon Elementary School, don't think you're getting in until you're buzzed on through.

Tampa, Florida -- Tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of the tragedy in Newtown, and as we take time to remember the 26 lives that were lost at Sandy Hook Elementary, Hillsborough County schools are still working on making sure their campuses are safer than ever before.

It's scenes that are hard for parents to get out of their head. The deadly attack at Sandy Hook Elementary, have schools like Cahoon Elementary in Tampa locking up security like never before.

From fences around the property to gates at the bus lane, if you're a visitor at the school, don't think you're getting in until you're buzzed on through.

Cahoon's Principal Joanne Griffith says in this day and age these are things that need to be done.

"It has enhanced are ability to keep students and staff safe," she says of the school's security measures which includes four locked gates around the campus.

The school also has a full-time school resource officer, making it one of only 19 elementary schools in Hillsborough County to have one.

"One hundred twenty-five elementary schools don't have resource officer," says Carol Kurdell, chair of the Hillsborough County School Board.

Kurdell hopes that's something that will soon change.

"After Sandy Hook, the sheriff's department put SROs in every elementary school until the end of school year. We have been talking about a plan."

A plan that would cost $4 million, but for Kurdell, she believes it's worth it.

"How do you put price on safety of children?"

The school board will decide whether or not to place school resource officers in every elementary school this Wednesday at 2 p.m.
