Tampa, Florida -- A shelter dog selected for adoption was accidentally euthanized Tuesday.
The director of Hillsborough Animal Services released a statement to the media Thursday saying JoJo, a one-year-old male German Shepherd was mistakenly euthanized the day he was to go home with his newly-adopted family.
Director Ian Hallett stated:
"Despite newly-developed animal care policies and procedures and comprehensive staff training, a combination of human errors may have been the cause of JoJo's euthanization. This loss is regrettable and demands action. Consequently, this has been referred to Hillsborough County Human Resources for investigation and disciplinary action up to and including termination."
Hallett said the responsible staff has been relieved of any duties related to the euthanization of animals pending the results of the investigation.
