PORT RICHEY, Florida -- A 7-year-old Tampa Bay area boy won first place in a national speed skating championship over Labor Day weekend.
Joseph Salerno skates for Team Florida, which is based at Spin Nation in Port Richey.
Joseph's father says he and his brother, Michael, spent their entire summer break skating. They practiced twice a day, six days a week.
All that training seemed to pay off. Over the Labor Day weekend, Joseph participated in the 14th annual NIRA Nationals and earned three gold medals and one silver medal. His father tells 10 News he came in 1st in his time trial, 1st in his long race (500M), 1st in his middle race (300M), and 2nd in his short race (200M).
