St. Petersburg, Florida -- Finally, a longtime Clearwater firefighter-paramedic received a special honor at Tropicana Field for helping a Rays pitcher who had been hit in the head by a line drive.

Steve Colbert received the Liberty Mutual Firemark Award for Heroism on the field before the Rays played the Los Angeles Angels Thursday afternoon.

Colbert was working off-duty as a member of the St. Anthony's medical team on June 15 when Alex Cobb was hit by the line drive. He rushed to the mound to give aid to Cobb as the pitcher lay on the field.

As an award-winner, Colbert will be considered for the 2013 national award which could eventually lead to $10,000 grant for the Clearwater Fire Department.
