Video: Puppeteer's neighbors react to 20-year prison sentence

Ronald Brown, a puppeteer from Largo, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday, July 29, 2013, after officials found hundreds of images of child pornography on his computer. Brown also admitted to fantasizing about killing and eating a boy he met at his church.

Largo, Florida - Ronald Brown, the puppeteer from Largo who had hundreds of images of child porn in his home- and said he fantasized about killing and eating a boy he met at his church- was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday.

"Just because of what he said and what he was planning, I'm glad he's not coming back," said Stacey Gaughan, a former neighbor of Brown's. "You're talking about really serious things you know. What you want to do to a child... it's disgusting."

The 57-year-old pleaded guilty to eight counts of child pornography possession during the sentencing at the federal courthouse in downtown Tampa.

Brown was a puppeteer for decades and performed churches around the Bay area.

He was also one of the stars of the Christian television show Joy Junction, which aired back in the 1980s.

The most sensational part of the case was when he admitted to a man in Kansas on an internet chat room that he dreamt of killing and eating a boy who he met at his Largo church.

"The talk about necrophilia and cannibalism... that's something you don't usually see in child porn investigation- which obviously weighed in on the judge's decision," said Willie Cancio of Homeland Security Investigations.

The child pornography charges only carried a nine-year sentence, so prosecutors filled what's called an "Upward Variance", which details Brown's decades long history of obsession with young boys.

Details of the motion included information on the internet chats, journals that Brown kept of his fascination with young boys and books on serial killers found in his home during a July 2012 raid- during which they also found hundreds of images of child porn, some of them included dead children.

Brown is scheduled to serve his sentence at Coleman Butler, a mental health treatment facility in Stark. He must undergo regular polygraph tests, register as a sex offender in any state after he gets out of prison, and he cannot have any contact with children or a computer.

The man Brown was corresponding with in Kansas, Michael D. Arnett, was sentenced to 30 years in prison of child porn charges.
