FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - The Obama administration wants Florida lawmakers to know it's not too late to expand Medicaid to more than 1 million residents.

During a telephone conference Wednesday, Health and Human Services official reemphasized that Florida could receive more than $50 billion federal dollars under Medicaid expansion. The feds will pick up the tab the first three years and 90 percent after that.

When asked the reason for the call, officials said they're encouraged by the state dialogue on Medicaid expansion and wanted to join the conversation.

State Democrats have also tried to pressure Gov. Rick Scott and Republican leaders, asking for a special session, holding town halls and circulating petitions. But any change is unlikely for now.

House Republicans aren't budging and Scott has said a special session doesn't make sense unless they do.
