Inverness, Florida -- Two people face child neglect and child abuse charges after a five-week-old child was taken to a hospital with severe head trauma last week.

On July 16, Citrus County Sheriff's detectives were informed about the baby girl's injuries by a Citrus Memorial Hospital ER doctor which included bleeding in her brain, a large bruise on her left temple area, a bruise near her left chin and marks on her abdominal area.

During their investigation into this incident, detectives spoke with a witness who told them on June 14, they had gone to the baby's home to help out the baby's one-year-old sibling. When they got there, the witness told detectives there was music blaring inside.

When the witness went into the child's room, they found the one-year-old in her crib with a urine-soaked diaper down to her knees which forced her to stand in her crib with puddles of urine collecting at her feet on the mattress. She also had snot coming down her face and there was vomit in the crib.

The witness told detectives Peggy Wood and Gerald Williams were home at the time and had the music blaring so loud and the door to the child's room closed to drown out the sound of her "blood curdling screams," according to the arrest report.

After their investigation into both incidents, detectives arrested 20-year-old Peggy Wood and charged her with Aggravated Child Neglect and Child Abuse.

Williams, 22, was charged with 2 counts Aggravated Child Neglect. Williams is currently being held without bond due to information detectives received that he planned to leave the county after hearing about the DCF investigation.
