Bradenton, Florida -- Deputies say a young woman fought off two men as they attacked her and tried to strip off her clothes on an elementary school track.
The attack came as the 23-year-old woman was running next to Samoset Elementary School on Wednesday at around 9:30 p.m.
The area is very dark at night, with just a few scattered lights on nearby buildings.
In what's described as a violent and scary attempted rape, Manatee County Sheriff's Office investigators say the men tried to take off the woman's clothes.
She was able to break free and run away.
To fend the men off, a Sheriff's Office report says the woman "challenge[d] them with a weapon." While it's not clear what that weapon was, it apparently worked.
The men took off running, deputies say, and the woman was not hurt.
Despite the darkness and terrifying attack, the victim managed to give detectives a very sharp description of the suspects.
She described the first suspect as a black man wearing a red Michael Jordan hoodie and black pants. He's likely in his 20's and stands about 6'3" tall with a thin build.
The second suspect is described as a white man, possibly Hispanic. He was wearing a yellow A-shirt, which is a tank top undershirt, and neon orange shorts. He's described as having a muscular build and is also likely in his 20's. There is a tattoo of a pinup girl on his arm.
A sign indicates the school's track and playground are supposed to be open for people in the neighborhood to use until sunset.
But when our 10 News crew arrived in the dark at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, the gate next to the sign was open. Neighbors told us it is typically unlocked and open at night.
