Clearwater, Florida -- A duplex fire killed a puppy on North Saturn Avenue in Clearwater Wednesday morning. That's near the intersection of Cleveland Street and South Keene Road.

Clearwater Fire Rescue says there were two adult dogs and five puppies in the home. The four surviving puppies have minor burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

The pups are five to six months old. The mother dog, which appears to be a lab, was unconscious and close to death until she rescuers gave her oxygen. She's expected to be OK.

They also tried to resuscitate the puppy with their special pet oxygen equipment donated to the department.

All of the dogs were taken to the SPCA were they are receiving full veterinary services.
