Tallahassee, Florida -- The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) announced Wednesday the arrest of a local telemarketing employee for solicitation of sales without a license.
The FDACS say this is third arrest by the department of an unlicensed telemarketer in the Tampa Bay area this week.
During a surprise inspection on Tuesday, department investigators say they discovered that NRG Solutions in Clearwater employed five unlicensed salespersons.
They did determine one of the sales persons, Daffanee Beeson, had prior knowledge of the laws governing phone sales and was criminally charged. The department issued warnings and information on how to become properly licensed to the other four employees.
The department also issued an immediate Cease and Desist order on NRG Solutions as well as an Administrative Complaint in the amount of $15,000 for operating an unlicensed telemarketing room that employed the five unlicensed salespersons.
FDACS determined NRG Solutions was not licensed by the state of Florida to conduct commercial telephone solicitation after a diligent records search.
Consumers who believe fraud has taken place can contact the department's consumer assistance and information hotline at 1-800-HELP-FLA (435-7352) or, for Spanish speakers, 1-800-FL-AYUDA (352-9832).
