Wimauma, Florida -- Hillsborough County deputies are giving credit to a pair of Florida Department of Transportation workers who helped catch and hold a man who tried to flee and hit-and-run incident with a motorcyclist Thursday morning.

Deputies say around 10 a.m., Obispo Valentin was heading west on CR 672 and, when he tried to turn left onto Balm Wimauma Road, he traveled into the path of Brandon Collett's motorcycle that was heading east on the road.

Collett tried to swerve out of the way but hit the driver's side door of Valentin's truck. Instead of stopping, Valentin reportedly continued west for about 200 feet before stopping and fleeing on foot. That's when state DOT workers William McDonald and Thomas Wilhelmsen, who witnessed the crash, caught Valentin and held him until deputies arrived.

Collett, 22, was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Valentin, 25, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and no valid driver's license.
