Lakeland, Florida-- The driver of a semi that hit a pedestrian early Wednesday morning will likely not be charged, officials say.
According to reports, 48-year-old Herman Capers was driving his 2009 International semi with a 53-foot trailer along County Line Rd. near Spring Creek Dr., when he saw a man walking in his lane.
Capers attempted to avoid hitting the man, who has since been identified as 74-year-old James Bernard Edwards, but was unable to do so.
Right after the collision, Capers reportedly stopped the truck, called 911 and tried to help Edwards, but reports say EMS declared him deceased when they arrived.
All lanes of County Line Road in both directions were closed as officials dealt with the incident, but they have since re-opened.
The investigation continues.
