Tarpon Springs, Florida -- Police in Tarpon Springs have issued an informational bulletin that a notice -- included in flyers, postcards and email distributed in the area -- has no affiliation with the City of Tarpon Springs, Pinellas County or the state of Florida.

The notice reads: "Water Update! Unfortunately we were unable to reach you by phone or in person. Upon receiving this notice we ask you to contact our office within 72 hours."  The notice then gives a phone number and contact name with the "Water Resource Dept." and office hours.

Police want residents to know that this notice is coming from a private company that sells water treatment equipment like filters and water softeners.

10 News called the number listed on the flyer. The company is Environmental Water based in Spring Hill.  We were told the notice is something they send to every new home owner in the area.  They offer to come to the home and do a test on the water, leave a written report and always state they are not with the water department.

A check with the Better Business Bureau shows five complaints against Environmental Water in the past three years and a "B" grade rating.
