Tampa, FL-- UPDATE: Police have arrested the student responsible for lighting the fireworks mistaken for gunshots at Hillsborough High School Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, a member of the staff identified the 17-year-old female student after seeing her light the fireworks on surveillance footage.

The girl was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center and charged with inciting a riot and tampering with evidence.

Over 50 officers responded to Hillsborough High School Thursday afternoon after fireworks were mistaken for "shots fired" on campus.

According to reports, Tampa Police officers received a call from inside the school at 2:20 p.m. saying that shots had been fired on the fourth floor of the school.

Within minutes, dozens of officers responded to the school prepared for an active shooter scenario.

They cleared the interior and exterior of the school, and that's when officers say they found lit fireworks.

A total of 53 officers responded and participated in the search, which reportedly lasted just short of 10 minutes.

After officials found the fireworks, Police Bomb K-9 also searched the building for any explosives.

Detectives were still conducting interviews at the school to determine who set off the fireworks an hour after the incident.
