Fort Meade, FL-- Polk County deputies are on the lookout for a truck driver who hit an elderly man in a parking lot and fled the scene after checking to see that he was ok.

According to reports, the accident happened just before 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 13 in the parking lot of the Dollar General Store off Charleston Avenue.

The driver of the truck reportedly hit the man, who was walking, as he was backing out of a parking space.

After the victim fell from the collision, the driver got out of the truck and asked if the man needed to go to the hospital.

The victim said he did not want to go to the hospital.

Witnesses then helped the elderly man up off the ground and into the Dollar General to take a seat, and that's when, reports say, the driver of the truck fled the scene.

Officials describe the truck as an older model brown Chevy S-10.
