Valrico, Florida -- A 16-year-old Bloomingdale High School student was killed Wednesday night in a car accident near Natures Way and Golf Meadow Boulevards.

According to reports, Zach McCarthy was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am westbound just before 9:30 p.m. when he lost control and spun out. The car then exited the roadway and hit a tree on the driver's side.

McCarthy was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where officials say he later passed away.

His passenger, 15-year-old Michaela Faessler, was reportedly not injured.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies were still investigating this incident as of Thursday morning.

A "RIP Zach McCarthy" page on Facebook says there will be a memorial service for Zach this evening. The comment is as follows:

"There will be a memorial service for zach mccarthy at the ROC Center at St. Stevens from 5-9, followed by a candlelight at 9:30 by the tree. Anyone is welcome. Rest in peace Zach. I love you."
