Tampa, Florida -- An injured pelican that landed on a cruise ship was being treated at BluePearl Veterinary Partners specialty and emergency hospital in Tampa Thursday.
The Hillsborough County Animal Services officer who brought the pelican to BluePearl's Tampa location reported the pelican hurt itself by flying into part of the Royal Caribbean International's Jewel of the Seas' superstructure after it landed on the ship.

Royal Caribbean International said the pelican landed on deck 12 of the port-side of the ship just after 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The ship was returning to its seasonal Tampa homeport from Cozumel, Mexico on Tuesday.
Staff then transferred the pelican to animal service around 10 a.m.
BluePearl doctors are currently treating the bird for dehydration and say after a physical exam they determined it has a minor wing injury, but should be okay after a rehabilitation stint.
