At 6 a.m., there were only three cancellations on the flight boards. All three flights were to or from Dallas/Fort Worth which was blanketed with snow on Christmas Day.

That number quickly swelled throughout the morning as storms moved into the mid part of the country and the northeast. There were more than 40 delays and cancelations listed at Tampa International by the noon hour.

Airports impacted by cancelations to and from Tampa International include Indianapolis, Dayton, Pittsburgh, and Chicago.

Wicked weather is to blame for the 600 flight cancellations yesterday and more than 5,000 delays according to Flightstats.com.

Nearly 1,000 flights had been canceled or delayed across the country by mid-morning.

Travelers will want to keep a close eye on the weather and their scheduled flights as the wicked weather sets its path on the northeast today and tomorrow.

An estimated 5.6 million people are flying to and from their destinations this Christmas holiday.

Flightaware.com has several airports showing delays (as of noon): Miami, Memphis, New York area, Chicago, Detroit, Dallas, and Philadelphia.
