WINTER HAVEN, Florida -- A Winter Haven police officer has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a prostitute while on duty.
The Winter Haven Police Department says a confidential source approached an officer in September 2012 and claimed Paul Bryant IV was having sexual relations with a prostitute while on the job.
A criminal investigation began the next day. The 3-month joint investigation resulted in Bryant's arrest on Wednesday for false imprisonment of an adult and 2 counts of purchasing the services of a prostitute.
Winter Haven police say Bryant confessed to detectives from the Polk County Sheriff's Office that he paid for oral sex while on duty during the past year.
One encounter resulted in Bryant being charged with false imprisonment when he entered a home to meet with a known female prostitute. Police say Bryant grabbed a woman inside the home, eventually letting her go.
"I am extremely disappointed with Paul Bryant and his criminal actions that have resulted in his arrest," said Chief of Police Gary Hester. "His (Bryant's) criminal behavior and arrogance to think that the laws do not apply to him is a disgrace. The members of the Winter Haven Police Department are dedicated to upholding the law and serving the citizens of Winter Haven and we will not tolerate this type of criminal behavior."
Bryant has resigned from the Winter Haven Police Department.
