Clearwater, Florida -- Winter the tailless dolphin has a poolmate.

Hope, a female rescued from the Indian River Lagoon on the east coast and deemed unable to return to the wild, has joined Winter in the main pool at the aquarium.

Like Winter, Hope was rescued when she was about two months old. She arrived at the aquarium five years to the day that Winter was rescued from the same area.

She was rehabilitated in a separate pool, but marine experts believed she could not gain the proper survival skills for a life back in the ocean, so the aquarium will become her permanent home.

"Now the two young dolphins have been successfully paired in the main pool at CMA, where they can be seen together for the foreseeable future," the aquarium stated. "This new relationship will allow CMA to expand its inspirational work with individuals around the world."

Details of the pairing are expected at a news conference Thursday.
