Winter Haven, FL-- Ashir Jamin Matai recovers in a local hospital this evening after being shot late Thursday night by a suspect unknown to officials at this time.
Matai, 30, was reportedly in the area of 101 Avenue R N.E. around 11 p.m. last night when officials say he was shot in the leg by "an unknown black male."
Matai, who had to have surgery after the shooting, told officials the suspect fled eastbound on Avenue R N.E. in an older, light-colored, sedan, "possibly an 80's model Cadillac, Coup Deville- driven by another black male."
Police describe the shooting suspect as a 20 to 25-year-old black male who is approximately 6'1', between 220 and 230 pounds, and has dread locks three to four inches in length.
The driver is reportedly between 25 and 35, and has short hair.
