Tampa, Florida -- Two dozen preschool children, outfitted with hard hats and shovels, celebrated the groundbreaking for the $6.6 million construction of the Primrose School of South Tampa Wednesday.

The new school, located at 1700 West Kennedy Boulevard, will provide leading educational childcare as well as create 70 new jobs in the community. Co-owner Jana Radtke said at the groundbreaking her and her husband, Richard, had been looking for seven years for a South Tampa location big enough for the two-acre school that will house playgrounds appropriate for each age class.

The couple owns two other Primrose schools in Cross Creek and Tampa Palms and Jana said they always wanted to open a school in South Tampa because the area is their home and was in great need of a school like theirs.

Those who attended the groundbreaking included City Council Representatives Harry Cohen, Lisa Montelione, Frank Reddick and Mike Suarez, along with other community leaders and dignitaries.

Primrose School South Tampa will offer Primrose's exclusive, standards-based Balanced Learning® curriculum, which supports children's social-emotional, cognitive, creative and physical development. The state-of-the-art, LEED-certified school will serve children ages six weeks to five years old, and will offer an after-school program for children up to age 10.
