Tampa, Florida -- The teacher who made national headlines for having sex with a 14-year-old student is trying not to be put back on probation.
Under a plea deal, Debra LaFave was originally ordered to three years of house arrest followed by seven years of probation. She pleaded guilty in 2005 to charges of having sex with a minor.

Last year, a judge agreed to her request to end her probation four years early, but back in August, an appellate court had that probation reinstated.

The Second District Court of Appeal ruled that as part of LaFave's original plea agreement, she waived her right to ask for an early termination.
Since then, the Second District Court has denied motions for rehearing and motions to stay her probation.
LaFave is now appealing to the state Supreme Court, and in a motion filed Wednesday, again asked that her probation not be reinstated until a final court ruling is made.

LaFave served more than two and a half years of house arrest before she was freed in 2008. She pleaded guilty in 2005 to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery for having sex with the boy in a classroom and her home. Her attorney said she had a psychiatric condition that affected her judgment.
The case became tabloid and media fodder at several turns. LaFave had posed in skimpy outfits for modeling shoots, and her lawyer once suggested the blonde was too attractive to go to jail.
