ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- Three adorable kittens that were almost killed are recovering and safe. Police say Rodney Blanchard tried to get rid of four kittens by putting them in the freezer of his St. Petersburg mobile home.
Neighbor Eve Mulder made the gruesome discovery when Blanchard asked her to get him a beer from the freezer.

"At first, I thought they were steaks in bags, then one moved and I heard meowing. I put two and two together and realized it was his former roommate's four kittens," said Mulder.
Mulder immediately went home and called 911. Pinellas County deputies arrived, took the kittens from the freezer, and arrested Blanchard, charging him with four counts of felony animal cruelty.
The kittens were taken for emergency care, but one did not survive, dying from hyperthermia. The three surviving kittens are doing well and will eventually be placed up for adoption at the Pinellas SPCA.
