AVON PARK, Florida -- An Avon Park man is under arrest, charged in the September 19th robbery of the Highlands Independent Bank on US 27.

Detectives say they used DNA evidence collected at the scene to tie 35-year-old Gopaul Narain to the robbery. Narain was already in custody following a September 28th traffic stop where he was charged with driving with a suspended license and providing a false name to law enforcement.

"Detectives have been patiently awaiting the lab results while following other leads. When the lab confirmed the match, detectives were able to make the arrest," says Sheriff Susan Benton.

The investigation remains open. Anyone with information is requested to call Detective Roger St. Laurent of the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit at 863-402-7447 or 863-402-7250. Anyone with information who wants to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward can call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS.
